Expressions for Art at The Regency

Expressions for Art at The Regency Assisted Living

Artwork by Regency residents

The Expressions for Art program led by Art Therapist, Alice Barletta, is making a big color splash all over The Regency! Residents have been attending art groups every Thursday where they have the opportunity to work individually or on collaborative pieces. The art milieu is a nurturing, social and creative environment where our residents can express themselves any way they choose. The art directives are experiential with a failure free product for all residents to engage in.
Recently the Regency artists have taken part in canvas abstract paintings, where they were encouraged to express themselves with color, design, markings, etc… They were also given masking tape to create an initial framework, later removed, showing an inside/outside negative and positive space. Some of the residents called them stained glass windows. Although experiential in nature, the differences in product outcome certainly showed off the residents unique personalities, and they had a lot of fun sharing their creations with each other. They are all excited to see their work popping off the walls making the art room an inspirational place for creating.
Their ongoing collaborative piece will include a paper mache 3-dimensional tree. They are currently working on the leaves for the tree which will be done in several different processes. Right now the leaves are being painted by the residents on both sides. They are currently contemplating a title for this piece. Alice hopes to display it, along with other works of art, at an art show in the Fall.
