Regency Chef Pat Visits Port Washington Senior Center

The Regency's Executive Chef, Pat Marone, with seniors from Port Washington Senior Center in Manorhaven

On Tuesday, October 21st, The Regency’s Award Winning Executive Chef, Pat Marone, blended up something healthy and delicious for the seniors at Port Washington Senior Center in Manorhaven.
The Regency’s Chef Pat is very well known locally because he often volunteers to do some of his much loved “Cooking Italian for Seniors” demonstrations for various senior groups and organizations in the area. On this occasion however, he decided to change it up a bit, and make everyone some tasty and nutritious smoothies for breakfast, to start their day off right. Everyone really enjoyed tasting Chef Pat’s creation which was made with a base of unsweetened almond milk along with kale, apples, bananas and pineapple. For many it was their first time tasting almond milk and kale. They were surprised at how sweet and filling it was.
A critical part of healthy aging, and avoiding senior malnutrition, is getting enough of the right nutrients. Seniors need the proper amount of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other healthful ingredients to support the immune system, ward off disease, and provide the building blocks for healthy bodies and minds. But it can be difficult to get enough of the fruits, veggies, and other foods in that contain these nutrients. Enter the delicious, nutrient-dense smoothie, which packs a huge amount of protein and vitamins into one easy-to-drink glass. Regency residents enjoy healthy smoothies on a regular basis. It is a part of The Regency’s “Getting Healthy” approach to wellness. And everyone is really loving it!
