Steve Fratello, “The Butterfly Man” Visits The Regency Assisted Living

Send 2On Wednesday, February 3rd, Naturalist and Explorer Steve Fratello visited The Regency to share some of his amazing stories, along with his rare and varied collection of butterflies and moths, with Regency residents.
Steve, aka “the Butterfly Man”, came armed with fascinating details about his adventures in the Amazon Rainforest, where he spent 500 days. The Amazon is very large, about the same size as the United States, and is home to countless, magnificent butterflies and moths, along with other exotic animals like frogs, monkeys, jaguars and snakes. Steve shared his many shadowboxes filled with various different exquisite specimens of butterflies and moths, to the delight of his audience. Everyone was surprised to learn that there are more than 25,000 different species of butterflies and over 500,000 species of moths throughout the world! Steve showed examples of how these extraordinary creatures adapt to their environment through mimicry and camouflage; and he explained how their beautiful, bright colors help them to communicate, while also serving as a warning to would be predators, that if eaten, they are indeed poisonous. Everyone so enjoyed this truly outstanding presentation. Thank you Steve for such a fun and informative afternoon!
