What’s New in Expressions For Art

Expressions for Art

Regency Residents with Alice Barletta, Art Therapist

This summer and into the fall residents will be exploring the new medium of sand painting during Thursday’s Expressions for Art program. Through a two-step process of designing with glue and then sprinkling brightly colored fine grain sand, resident artists have had the experience that Native Americans and other cultures have used to express themselves though art and design.
As a way of displaying the sand painting exercise, resident artists were involved with the building of a pyramid constructed of cardboard and paper mache during collaborative group sessions. Pre-cut small triangles were provided for our artists to paint black and when dry, served as the perfect background for their individual creative sand painting expressions. Some people just enjoyed feeling the sand sift through their fingers.
When all of the triangle sand paintings are completed they will be attached with glue to our pyramid and proudly displayed as the centerpiece for this year’s upcoming art show in November.
