The Regency at Glen Cove Celebrates National Assisted Living Week

The Regency at Glen Cove National Assisted Living WeekThe Regency at Glen Cove had a fabulous time celebrating National Assisted Living Week from September 8th – 14th. Established by the National Center for Assisted Living in 1995, National Assisted Living Week provides a unique opportunity for residents, families, staff, volunteers and the surrounding community to come together to give residents a variety of exciting events and activities to show how much they are loved and cared for. The building was decorated in honor of this very special week and the community was invited to stop in for coffee and donuts to celebrate with residents and staff.
The 2013 theme, Homemade Happiness, was designed to help residents recall simpler times when cell phones and social media were not how you kept in touch. Happiness, and connecting with friends for them, was found in simple, homemade endeavors. Regency residents had the opportunity to participate in different “homemade” activities all week long. They painted with watercolors for “Home is Where the Art is”, made ice cream sundaes, created Halloween cards and also played some balloon volleyball to stay “young at heart” just to name a few. Recreation Director, Erica Ferrara, enjoyed seeing residents participate in so many fun activities. She loved the positive feelings it fostered between them and how it gave them a chance to recall happy memories from their childhood.
